ONE Kidney?

Well, we figured out why Lucy the Rabbit did not do well as a breeder.

She was working off only ONE kidney! And that kidney was HUGE.

Is this genetic, or a fluke, or...? First time we've seen this in the 4 or 5 years we've been raising rabbits.

I reckon its just a fluke, like some humans born with only one. Crazy stuff. Did you save any doe kits? I imagine if it is heretitary, you would find it in the same line again at some point.

If I had that doe, and still had her original parents, I would take a kit from her, one of each gender, and breed them back to her parents. I imagine a terminal cross like that would be more likely to show whether it is in your line or not?

Don't have the doe any more. That's how we found out that she had only one kidney.

Didn't save any kits from her, as she never did reproduce very well.
