I've joined the club!

I love this rabbit forum and read it like a magazine. I thought about getting rabbits for years and I finally did! I'm glad to join your club.
Even though I've not been a poster, I've been a reader and just about all my questions are answered by looking through the posts.

May I share a little story?

I got 2 NZ does and a CA buck this summer. I was told none were pregnant...yeah right! We had a nice little surprise litter and my kids were thrilled. The Momma of this litter is a bit skittish and bites if you try to get near her or the babies. Well, the babies are weaned but she's still not to nice but an interesting thing happened recently........

My daughter brought her horse to our barn (he was being boarded). The horse was not real happy as he didn't have a friend. UNTIL he discovered the rabbit.
He LOVES this rabbit! He stands as close to the cage as he can get and often tries to stick his nose in it. The rabbit is probably just curious but she responds to him by coming over to him and sniffing him everytime he comes near. She doesn't act threatened at all, seems to like his company.

It's so cute. They seem to comfort each other. Who would have thought....a horse and a rabbit are friends! (well, that's what we tell ourselves anyway..

Hi Lorian and welcome to "the club"!

Cute story about the horse and bunny... I remember a cat that loved to sit on top of the rabbit's cage (these were both my son's pets years ago) and they seemed to derive pleasure from each other's company. My geese are very interested in the rabbits and seem benevolent towards them... (although they hate the chickens and chase them every chance they get.)

Welcome to the world of rabbits!

A goat makes an excellent companion for a horse & doesn't eat as much as another horse either.

Horses are herd animals and will bond with other animals if there aren't other horses. I have a stallion out on lease who has a "pet goose" ... the goose stays in the stall/paddock and they share hay and grain both. The stallion is very careful when the goose is underfoot, obviously being careful not to step on him.

We once had a stallion that became very attached to a goat. Funny thing is, it was mutual. We couldn't take him anywhere without her bleating pitifully at the top of her lungs for a long time at the injustice of being left behind. Several times when we were out riding she would suddenly appear (she was an escape artist), racing up behind us bawling the whole way until she caught up. I never realized a goat could follow a scent trail with her nose to the ground, run so fast or look so funny doing it. She was big-horned, big eared, big footed and extremely uncoordinated-looking when she ran but he loved her.
