So sorry, Kristin. You've certainly had more than your share of problems with the buns. Hang in there... things will improve. It's just a bumpy stretch of road you're on right now.

I've been there, wow, does that stink!

Have you introduced any new bunnies lately? Of course, he could have just been a carrier, and you don't know it until they get stressed and present symptoms. Not a thing you can do about that, I hate hate hate that! I feel like there could be a ticking time bomb out there and I wouldn't know it til it blows!

You can still eat bunny though, he's safe to eat. Unless you don't like eating those who have been around for a while, that does take some getting used to!

I read on another forum that the butcher offered "cutlets" for sale. As near as I can figure out, it is basically ground rabbit meat and some salt, formed into patties.
I plan to try this out when rotating out older stock. I have heard it is delicious!

We either make the older stuff into stew, or I grind it up for the dogs and make jerky treats for them. I suppose I could make jerky for people treats, but then I'd have to bone it, where I can just do the whole thing for the dogs!

I found that the rabbit tasted much better after it had "rested" in the fridge for two days. I was just freezing it right away before.

"Snuffles" or pasteurella, is present in many rabbits (maybe the majority of them). Usually you don't ever see it, but as was mentioned above, if the rabbit is stressed then the pasteurella shows up and obviously this presents a lot of problems.

As usual, prevention is the answer. Sounds so simple, doesn't it? Don't you just want to smack people who say that? I know I do.

Sorry about your loss.
You might want to check out Vanodine. I've not used it but it gets rave reviews in this forum and it sounds like it might help your situation. Shouldn't hurt, at any rate.
