escapee

I have a angora buck that broke free (youngest didn't watch the rabbits as he was opening/latching the door even though he is not to touch the cages. )

Now the darn thing would come up to me and let me pick up usually, but the feel of freedom was to great.....

He was last seen creeping up in a blackberry shrub and I now feel that it will be his last sighting! We have hawks, coons, and coyotes.

Is there a chance that I will be able to capture him? He will not make it even if does manage to escape the above listed critters, urine burns and not used too greens. Does any one know of traps for capturing them?

Take a dish of his food plus whatever you give him for treats and sit down on the ground near where you saw him. Take a blanket, a book, a thermos of coffee or whatever. If he is normally easy to handle, there is a good chance that he will come over to you when he sees you just relaxing there, doing nothing. Then nab him.

And you might consider putting locks on the cages.

OR... borrow my dog. She'll herd him back to you or at least corner him and that makes rabbit catching easy! Been there, do that...way too many times totally inadvertantly.

I agree with the lock suggestion that Maggie had. I had to get locks to put on our rabbit tractors last summer. The darn neighbor kid was coming over and letting the rabbits out in the afternoon. He had done it several times until I caught him red handed! Anyway - after we put the locks on and had a talk with the boy's mother - we didn't have any trouble!

I hope you are able to get your bunny back!

well I guess the great outdoors did not agree with him as he had first thought. I found him this morning in my yard nibbing on grass by the rabbit hutch and when I went out I saw that he was by his cage (ground level) and that he was trying to nudge and scratch the door trying to open the darn door.

I opened the door and he hopped right back in as if nothing had happened. He ate his food and went right to sleep. I am going to let him rest and then clean him up.

I guess I won't worry about him trying to escape again.....

Glad he came back. Caged rabbits really do consider their cages as home. They may enjoy an adventure now and again, but it's a big scary world out there.

If this ever happens again, leave the cage door open for him. He'll likely be back in there within hours.
