I'll never understand females...

... no matter what species!!

As mentioned in my earlier thread, my two doe had their first litters this past weekend. The first doe had 11, she's down to 8. the other had seven and she lost only one.

Anyways, the second doe moved her straw all over the cage: in the box, out of the box, then back in again. Til all was said and done, she built a makeshift nest on the floor (complete with bunny fur) and had her kits on the floor. My son moved 'em into the box.

Today, I came home from work and both doe had hair all over the cage. Three days after giving birth, they went nuts covering them with fur. I had heatlamps on the boxes but apparently our new mamas decided that fur was better anyways.

So what gives? Why did the does wait so long to pull so much fur? Not that I'm complaining, but they should have thought of this a few days ago

I have one that does this when I remove fur (cuz she's an over acheiver!) Always pulls more later.

Did you do a head count to see if there was maybe an extra one there? I think sometimes they have one that didn't come out, and then pull more hair after they're really done! My Rex had 2 one day, and then 2 more the next day (dead) and my SF doe that just kindled 9 had 1 on the wire a day later.

Or they could just be "fixing" what you didn't do just right the first time! :P
