Newbie Question

I bought a NZ doe on 9-20 from a local breeder. He bred her for us before we took her home. She started pulling fur about 5 days ago and according to the breeder should have delivered on 10-19. So far no kits. Would she have started building a nest if she was not pregnant? Is it common for a doe to be late? How long should I wait to breed her again? Maybe his math was wrong??

Look forward to some input for this beginner.

Rabbits have a 'range' in their gestastion, just like most critters. I give a nest box 28 days after breeding. I'll get kits anywhere from the 29th day to the 35th day, with most of mine at 32 or 33 days.

If she's pulling fur, I'd make sure she has a good nestbox, and be patient for a couple days! Good luck! And let us know!

If this is the first time for your bunny having babies she may had already had them an ate them. I have had that to happen to a first time mother bunny. I don't mean to scare you but it does happen an again sometimes they have a false pregancy too. Oh an the guy that bred your bunny may not gotten the day right. Did you all just leave her with a buck for one day or more? If more she could gotten pregant a little later date. Trying to help you out on this one. Just telling what I have went through with my group of rabbits.

JMO on this one.

Yeah, I think one of mine did that too. I was positive she was preg. She made a nest. No babies. So she either reabsorbed them, or ate them. She isn't a particurlarly nervous bun, but more nervous than some of the others.

I'd give her til day 38, just in case he got the day wrong, then rebreed her.
