Non-retracted penis

While familiar with the possibility of this happening, to date, it's not happend here.
I have a mallard drake that has been breeding frequently. I noticed that his penis has not retracted into his body after breeding. It has been exposed for several days now.
His behavior is normal and nothing about him appears to be out of sorts.

If it doesn't retract into his body, and it may even be too late at this point, what will happen with this situation?

Catching him to examine or treat him is out of the question as he has virtually become feral short of eating and sleeping here with his flock.

Good to know this is obviously not a common issue.

i have seen it happen and it normally gets damaged and or dries out or gets frost bite depending on the time of year, it can be cut off to prevent infection but obviously it pretty well ends his breeding life

We had a drake with that problem, but we could catch him. We did end up trimming it when it became damaged. It didn't seem to hurt him to do that and, as mentioned, he was unable to breed after that and was just a pet.

If you cannot catch him, it would be best, IMHO, to get the rifle out and put him down.
