fermented feed

So I have my first batch of fermented feed in the bucket doing its thing. When I am ready to feed it do I take it out of other bucket or will it dry up without the dual bucket setup? Thanks

yrs ago when raising game fowl. i would ferment or "soak" oats. i would keep a 5 gal. bucket with oats in it covered in water. in a week it would ferment. smell god awful nasty. i took a plastic measuring cup container. probably a 4 cup measure. i drilled holes in bottom and dip it into bucket to retrieve oats. all that putrid water would pour back into bucket. and id have a container full of fermented oats. i would feed this to the fowl in self feeder type troughs. or mix into their daily ration. which was custom mixed. the moisture in oats would soften pellets.

they LOVED it. plain fermented oats or mixed with their pelleted rations

using this method the fermented oats would supply you for many days. i didnt raise to many fowl. and didnt feed soaked oats every day either. so a 5 gal bucket worked for me. when all oats were gone. you just add more dry oats to bucket and add new water to cover them. keeping them covered in water they dont rot. and the nutrion value went up.

you can soak any grain. even that worthless corn. i know many men who had alot of birds who kept a 32 -50 gal. barrel fermenting oats at all times.

It doesn't really need to dry up. If you don't have a lot of water in the bucket, as in a couple of inches, the birds won't care about a little liquid. Although some may drink it, they will mostly peck the feed out. I simply scoop it out of the fermenting bucket and give it to the birds in a feeder trough. That's the only downside to fermented feed, it won't do well in hanging feeders.
