Hen's Acting Strange

I have two Golden Comet's. One more than the other has been spending hours in the nest box with her tail out like she has to lay but then after hours she comes out and acts like nothing happened. Of course there is no egg. I am not sure what is going on both Hen's did not molt this fall, they just turned 2 and are acting fine otherwise. When I feel their abdomens I don't feel anything hard, just squishy. This has been going on for about the last week or so. I am pretty sure neither are broody. Any ideas as to whats going on? TYIA!

ETA: Neither one of them laid all winter either.

Sometimes it just takes them a while to start laying again.
You could check her vent to see if she's "eggbound".

Are they always confined?
Could they be laying somewhere else?

Yes they are confined as they are outlaws. I did check vents for eggbinding as that was my first thought. I didn't know it took a while for them to start laying agian, thanks!
