quiet

Hey guys, never had chickens before, always wanted too tho but my town has an ordinance against it without a permit, well nobody gets a permit... I've begged the city council several times, its just not gonna happen I think they want to laugh at me when I tell them of my self sufficient transition... my question for the chicken people is, is there a quiet type of chicken that I could have behind a privacy fence without alerting the neighbors? Thanks in advance for any info
Randolph

That has more to do with the individual than the breed. Some are noisy and some are quiet. I have some hens that want the heavens to know every time she lays an egg and others I never hear. Silkies overall seem to be very quite. Some banty breeds though specially Mille Fluer D'Uccles are the loudest I have raised. I have had a lot of layers but I have found there is no straight answer for a quiet chicken. I can only say that overall, silkies have ben my quietest and they seem to do the least damage when it comes to flower beds etc
