Odd behavior
We have a banty hen that's at least 4 years old that is the lone survivor of the group we bought her in. She has managed to survive a lot out here since we left the other house and she had hatcheg 9 eggs back this fall. Sadly there is only one left - who is bigger than she is at this point. Before she went broody she would roost way up high in the rafters in the barn. Well we were scared they would all be killed by predators so we brought her into the garage and made a spot for them there. (They had all hatched.)
We have been leaving the garage door cracked a bit so they could come in and roost and as the last two chicks were big enough she started roosting with them on the garage door track. A couple of nights ago we forgot to leave the door up and we found the last chick snuggled by the propane tank so we scooped him up and took him in the garage but she was nowhere to be found. She reappeared the next morning and off they went. Well after failing to get him to roost with her in the barn she is back to roosting in the garage.
Each morning she squawks to go outside if the door is not open when she is ready and today she did the same...or so I thought. The chick went out but she won't come down from the roost! It's almost 2pm here, bright and sunny and even kind of warm and she has no interest in going outside.
What could be wrong with her?
