Recycle/reuse cartons or your own?

Every week customers return cartons. But we are ready for our own cartons/label/logo.

If you have your own cartons etc, do/did you see a jump in sales? Decrease? Did you do a price increase?

In kansas you cant sell eggs in a used/recycled carton, it must be a brand new one with all of the safe handlng statements. and nutrition informatiion. You must also attach a egg tax sticker with the date of lay written on the tax stamp. tax was 5 cents per dozen. you also must attach another label with lettering no letters smaller than 3/8 of a inch showing the producers name and address.eggs sold to the public can not be placed above any other food item in the cooler. With these petty items and the possibility of on farm inspections with a worthless state employee. I now have a 1000 square foot chicken house and a 10000 sq foot outdoor pen setting empty. So I cant say if it helped or NOT.

i'm small time, only selling a few dozen a week to co-workers, nothing through farmer's market or anything like that. i reuse all of my cartons, and my customers are constantly returning them and bringing me ones that friends have given them as well. if i ever went to a full-on commercial operation and sold through the farmer's market, a CSA, or some other way, i would get some custom cartons just for the promotion of my business (if/when i ever get to being a "business.").

Buying cartons is stupid expensive. I'm not willing to increase the price of our eggs just to have fancy cartons.

I use both new and used cartons. One account has simply never returned enough cartons to make up for their drain on my supply so I started using new cartons for them (and charged accordingly). Everyone else gets clean, used cartons. nearly always Styrofoam.

New or used I do put my own label on them and that's what folks get to looking for after awhile. I think it helps and labels don't cost all that much. Getting access to a color laser printer to run them off is the hard part. Ink jet printers use water soluble ink.
