People do things different and thats OK. Quess that is what makes us all Different---LOL. I do not let my chickens free range(to many hawks) so I always seperate my hens that have hatched out chicks from the other chickens and from the other broody/hatching hens then I eliminate the chicks dying from being pecked to death and all the fights the mother hen gets into with the other hens. Matter Of Fact-----I always keep the young seperated until they get about grown and can take up for themself. My Normal procedure is to hatch out several dozen chicks----keep them seperated until they start laying then I "Cull" the older chickens, then do the same thing next year. That way I always keep younger chickens for better egg production. Good Luck!

So I have separated them as I am worried that the hens are attacking them. Had a sixth chick hatch today while the coop was empty and I immediately put it with the other two as I was afraid it might get attacked as well. Thoughts? Encourement? This is my first experience with broody hens hatching chicks!
