How old is Ready-to-Lay?

Maybe I"m answering my own question here but I just went out to feed and water the chickens and I found two eggs in the four month old group's area. I bought my first batch of chickens in the fall ready-to-lay and they were pretty much laying within a couple of days of when I brought them home. The eggs were a bit small, as these were. They're red sex links with a little cuckoo maran and gold laced wyandotte mixed in. I was always under the impression that it was six months before they would start laying.

It varies on breed, most of the birds we have took about 6 months. Four months is not unheard of but seams a bit early to me, I have had some as lat as 8 months.

Dels will lay as early as 16 weeks, Jersey Giants may take 8 or 9 months. They are all a little different. Just enjoy those eggs. They will get bigger soon.
