And then there were 13...

Lost 16 month-old meat birds to a raccoon. It only fed off of 5 of them, but killed the rest for fun. Arrrrggg. Caught the raccoon, but still down some chickens. It actually ripped the chicken wire away from the wood framing to get in. Darn thing.

glad you were able to catch him. We use poultry wire here also, but hardware cloth is really the only thing safe with coons around.

It's so frustrating when predators get your chickens! I think you've learned the hard way what some of the rest of us have also learned--chicken wire is only good for keeping chickens IN, not predators OUT.
