coons

Will coons steal eggs? Our egg count went from 12+ to 8-10 then i came home from town and our golden retriever had a coon up the tree next to the coop that night my dgt shot it down out of the tree with her 22 that day we only had 5 eggs. Now that the coon is gone we are back up to 12 + a day.

Yes...they sure will. They will also eat your chickens. Cute little beasts, but you probably don't want to keep them for company. You should count your blessing that it was only the eggs.

Coons will go after your chickens before the eggs.

They will take eggs. If there is a full nest of eggs, that is an easier meal than catching a lively chicken during daylight hours. Or possibly it frightened your chickens and that disrupted their laying schedule.
