RIP Papa Goose

The neighbors dogs were over again. They managed to go over a 5 foot fence and kill Papa my Sebastapol gander. 2 years ago they got his mate. Makes me so angry he was such a gentle goose, always took care of the goslings and then after loosing his mate he started adopting the ducklings. The ducks would wander off and he took care of the ducklings.
Quite a sight to see him with all the little ducks following him. Poor Papa would have been 15 years old this spring. I have declared war on loose dogs

Oh no, how frustrating. *hugs*
as far as the dogs.. I'd have shot them. One warning is enough!

me too. I'd shoot the dogs and then have a screaming ranting fit at the neighbors. done that. the screaming, not the shooting.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I know how geese can be. We too have a very paternal gander who has adopted ducklings. He's even reared goslings when his wives rejected them. (Long story). I would definitely talk to the neighbors to see if they can compensate you, but it won't bring you back Papa. Again, so sorry to hear.

I'd have a screaming, ranting fit at the dog and shoot the neighbors.

Sorry about Papa

so sorry. I know how we can become attached to birds.
In most states you can charge the owner with the cost of the birds. I went through 7 years of neighbors dogs getting my turkeys. Only after did it cost him money did the dog problem go away.

I'm so sorry you lost your goose.

Can you put a couple hot wires around your fence to keep the dogs out?

Soo sad. I lost 5 to an evil motorist this summer who went out of his way to hit the birds who walked on the shoulder to the neighbors every morning for a bread handout. He did not even bother to stop. Then weeks later he told my husband he thought he had hit one of the geese. NO idiot you hit 5 of them . Wonder what drug he was on. The geese each weighed about 30 pounds.
