Scary, isn't it? I'm going to have to feed my husband just bread and water so I can keep my chickens in the manner in which they are accustomed

There will be a balancing act between chicken and dumplings and eggs this winter. I don't need nearly so many eggs as we get. Frozen chicken costs less to keep than chicken on the hoof.

It cost me $13 for 50# of scratch this week....milo was $10.40 and sheep and goat was $11.75....we can't win.....and the $4 square bales of hay are now $10 here. Since the drought and fires, farmers are having a rough time.....lots of downsizing....

Let's see.... all these are 50lb

scratch is 11.29
22% layer pellet is 12.95
whole corn is 9.99
cracked corn is 10.99
goat is 16.99 (but I use 5 buck off coupons)
alfalfa pellets are 11.40
bunny feed is 13.99

40lb bags
beet pulp is 13.99

I am liking this idea of EBT cards for critters. Where do we sign up? I mean... they ARE unemployed part of the year....

I went to the feed store yesterday & came home mad-AGAIN,due to the feed cost going up AGAIN from last month....
Prices been going up a quarter or more each month for the past three months...
scratch grains here for 50#-$11.75 and 50# laying pellets are $11.50 now...

if i did not like my animals so much i would get rid of them,BUT i like having them around so got to pay the price....

And oddly enough, just a few days ago I read about what a bumper corn crop the US had this year.
