Dubia roaches

Dubia roaches are a roach species located in Central and South America. Baby blaptica dubia are around 3/16” inch and adults can reach 1 ½” to 2 inches. After adulthood they can live up to 12 months. Blaptica dubia have the great advantage of being extremely easy to sex as the adult males have full wings while the adult females have only tiny wing stubs. Even though they may have wings, they are unable to fly. They are also very slow movers. If one happens to escape you will have no problem catching them. They do not burrow and they also cannot climb smooth surfaces. They are a live bearing species and reproduce the slowest of all non-climbers. They have little to no odor making it much easier to be around them. They do not make any noise as they mature unlike Crickets.

These make a great feeder insect, as they are extremely easy to breed. If you start a small colony, within months you will have a self sustaining food source for your reptiles. I started in November with 300 nymphs and 40 adults . I now have thousands of dubia roaches. Or you could just purchase them and feed them until you run out.

Prices are as follows:
Nymphs- $0.25 a piece
Adult Males - 1.00 a piece
adult females 2.00 a piece

Provide a high protein food such as dry cat food or roach diet at all times. Also try whole grain cereal, baby cereal or fish flake food or pellets. Dubia roaches especially seem to like sweets such as dry breakfast cereal and breads. Food can be placed in the corners directly on the container floor or in a shallow dish.
I ran across this and thought it was interesting. Probably not cheap to raise though.

We raise Cuban burrowing roaches...

Our daughters both have bearded dragons that will eat you out of house and home if you are feeding them crickets....
These are relatively simple to raise and do not have the odor of crickets ( BOY DO THEY STINK !!) We feed ours fish pellets and the occasional apple core or handful of salad greens.
