My handy, dandy FREE brooder

A few years back at a farm consignment auction, I spyed a big old metal and plastic shade for an out door light.

It was part of a cart load of other "junque" that I didn't want but I paid $2.oo for the pile.
Soon I was approached by a Mennonite who offered me $1 for an item in my cache.

And soon another man wanted another item for a buck.
I bargained with him ----- he needed to take the whole pile (minus my lamp shade) for $1.
He was pleased!
Done Deal!

So I ended up with this FREE "lamp shade" that measures 30 inches in diameter, entirely closed at the bottom with plastic.............about 2 feet tall, with a 12 inch diameter opening at the top.

I lay a stick acoss the top with a dangling light bulb.

It's the perfect brooder for my spring babies (6 this year).

I can keep it inside the house without any mess ....... well, there is a tad bit of baby chicken odor.

When the chicks get strong enough to attempt to jump out the top, I lay a grate across the top...................
(shhhh......don't tell my DH) it's actually my rack for cooling cookies!

I love baby chicks AND I LOVE auctions!

What a neat brooder! I am very impressed with your ability to take an old useless shade and turn it into a brooder I too would like to see a picture.
