Stupid Rooster

So, y'all know I had too many roos out of my straight run batch of 10 and had to get rid of all but one. I thought this one would be a good caretaker of the hens and all seemed okay. Tonight that sorry thing attacked me from behind. I was carrying buckets out to the garden and the chickens were in the yard doing their thing. All of the sudden I feel something scratch the back of my leg and it was that dadgum rooster. I threw my bucket at him and hit him then proceeded to chase him all over the yard. Last I saw him he was running across our front porch toward the neighbors. I wasn't going to let him in the coop tonight but one of the hens got spooked while I was chasing him and I had to let her back in when she came back which meant he got back in too.

I knew I didn't want a rooster but let dh talk me into keeping one. I'm still mad!!!

If you scared the begeesus outta him, then it might be all good
At the moment I have 4 Roo's and like all soap opera's its fun to watch the chicken yard drama. One thing I have noticed that the 3 young Roo's all respect my old Roo Titan, they simple dont mess with em, and when they see him coming they run...so figure that right now they do the same with me, if they decide to test me I will enforce my position. All three of my Roo's I kept for breeding purposes ...for now.

Go in the coop after they're on the roost and grab him. Wring his neck and have him for dinner tomorrow.

Glad I am not the only one. We had one passive Rooster out of four. We put the others in the freezer. Now with a coop full of hens to himself he has become all guard bird. Good with young chicks n Ginnie's. But some days he will attack us hitting us hard. Removed his spurs and that worked for two weeks.. I carry a wooden post in with me when going into the coop yard. Not sure if we should keep him.. He protects all the birds so well..

We killed our mean BO rooster after he attacked one of our favorite hens. A neighbor gave me a Red Star rooster this spring. He's used to being handled. He was only a month old when we got him and so far he's very good natured. I hope he stays that way. Has anyone had a pet rooster who turned mean? Our previous BO rooster was rather wild as a chick and unlike our hens, hated being handled.

A friend of ours had a pet rooster that he held and petted. His grandpa used to hold the rooster on his lap and it would sing (crow) to him. One of the uncles teased the rooster and made it mean. The rooster then made the mistake of attacking the friends mother when her back was turned. The story went that the rooster was sold to a farmer with a bunch of lonely hens and a big barn.
