Owls

Does anybody know anything that will drive off owls? We have a pair of owls nested near our chicken coop and they've killed 10 chickens. They are actually walking in through the chicken door and killing chickens in the coop.

It is illegal to shoot the owls, so don't bother suggesting it. Thanks so much.

I am a new to this chicken thing, but I know if it were me I would call the local extension office and ask them for suggestions. I bet they know of some legal way to help you. They have been very helpful to me.

Are they killing them in the day time, or at night, and are your chickens completely secure in the coop at night or are you leaving a door open?

Close the door at night, problem solved. The owls will continue to kill as long as it is easy. Make it harder for them and they will hunt somewhere else.

We close the door at night, but the owl is crawling into the coop in the late afternoon.

Are you sure it is owls. They usually hunt at night, can't see that good in daylight and they are harrassed by other birds too much.
