dumb dumb went broody again,

Well time to set another batch of eggs under the Welsummer. She is broody again. I just can't break her, she sits well real well, rolls the bad eggs out and eats them cares for the babies well but when I took the last babies from her it only took about three days and she is broody again. She has been broody a good week.

Good for her! I hope to get some special nests and pens set up for my gang of persistent broodies this spring.

Lucky you! I have 1 hen who isn't laying but "inspects" the nestbox when someone's occupying it and another who changed nestbox sides so she can "keep someone else's egg warm for an hour or 2" while contemplating laying one of her own. Once she's performed, she hops right out! These ladies adopted and raised a juvenile last fall but I'm losing hope they'll go broody.

Ha! I giggled out loud when I read your thread title. I'll be getting chicks in a couple of months, and might just have to name one of them "Dumb Dumb". I had a "MamaHen" that was broody all the time, but I think "MamaDumbDumb" sounds a lot more fun.

We have a broody hen that STAYS broody. She lays an occasional egg when the mood hits her (maybe a dozen a year from her?) but most of the time she just wants to sit on the other girls eggs. Or sometimes she just sit in the box and pretends. Has her body all rounded out, wings and feathers spread and fluffed just like she's warming a whole box just full of eggs.....and then when I feel under her, I find nothing but her feet. LOL
We're thinking of giving her a few to raise this spring. Seems sad she wants to be a Mama sooooooo bad, but can't.

We gave our Buff Orpington hen eggs from another hen to breed on because she was always broody and did not lay eggs. She raised several chicks and is one of our best breeders. She is a beautiful mom that is why we call her "Mamma"!
