Vetting an injured chick & question about Cochins
One of my new chicks (about 6 or 7 weeks old now) got down into the feeder and got its foot stuck. When I rescued it, it would not put any weight on that foot, and the foot was ice cold (like it had circulation cut off a bit). I took it out and put it in a small dog crate with food and water. I thought that maybe keeping it out of the crush would help it, but I don't know how to tell if it is going to be okay, what's really wrong, or how to fix it if it is is more than a sprain or something like that. Any ideas? FWIW, it is a Cochin, so its feet are very feathery.
On another note, how can I tell if something is wrong with my Cochins (all 6-7 weeks old)? They nearly all have bald spots on their backs and some on their bellies. None of the other chicks have this problem, and there doesn't appear to be any mites or lice on them (and the big chickens don't have this issue either). Is this a Cochin issue? Anything I should look for? Any idea how to help them?
Thanks!
