Question 5 Chickens go missing

I was at a wedding last night, And I saw my next door neighbor there and he told me that the chickens were in the other neighbors yard.
Well not much I could do,
When I got back I was missing 5 5month old birds that night, They free range...
The neighbor kept thier dog indoors for the night, And this AM I went looking for them, I cant find them anywhere, Not even a feather, SO I have to go to work at 7am when they are usually out and about looking for some sun to lay in, This is a new job so I cant be a couple hours late,,,,,
I am having my girl friend coming over to look for them.
They are friendly and will follow someone they know begging for food in the AM.
Any ideas of anything else I can do ???????
I miss them!

Here's where I live.
Lots of roads and houses.
Peter
PS, Coop is in the back yard, And yes I did go up and down the RR tracks and didnt see a thing.
I have had foxes/hawks and the like.
BUT I looked real well up and down the RR tracks and up and down the block, No feathers,
When one gets caught by a predator I can always find a few feathers.
HELP

Would the neighbors call animal control if they were in their yard?

Cool, now we can come over and visit you.. Just kidding.

Hopefully they turn up. It looks like there are is a lot of traffic there. Maybe someone thought they were "lost" and took them home...

Time will tell. Wishing you luck!

Cool Good Luck!

If they were in your neighbor's yard - could they have gone further - into someone else's yard? I think maybe someone has your chickens and thought they were abandoned so not a problem to take them. I hope you find them I know what it's like.

I guess time will tell.
Do chickens look for something special when lost?
I am thinking that they will try and stay under the cover of bushes and the like. But I could be wrong.
The neighborhood is pretty tight, And although I dont talk about the birds to the neighbors, I figure that they all know I have them and would not call animal control.
But 2 blocks away they would not know about my having them.
How far do you think they would go in a day or two?
This is the first time they jumped the fence into the other yard, So I dont really know what they were thinking.

Call your local radio station and TV. They might help you because it is an unusual story. Good luck.

Hey Pred!

Any vagrants along the tracks? Any hobos? They love chicken roasted on a stick over a fire.

Next time clip the feathers on one wing pretty far back so that they cannot fly over the fence. Once outside the fence any dog can catch and kill them.

Any time my chickens have 'gone missing' it has been a permanent condition. Sorry to rain on your hopes, but if you have foxes, coyotes, weasels, raccoons, etc around and you have chickens gone... it isn't looking good. I hope it isn't true.
