Spent grain mixed with bread

We recently started getting spent brewers grain for our Large Blacks. Im curious how day old bread works as a supplement to mix with the brewers grain? We can get it locally for next to nothing, but Ive heard that the bread will make "lardy" hogs.

We started these pigs with Scratch and Peck Pig Grower and they have been doing great, but its getting very expensive. We are really trying to cut the cost down a little and utilize some of these leftovers that we can get ahold of.

They do spend a good amount of time each day in the pasture, plus get all of our table scraps, windfall apples.

We are fairly new to the hog world so Im curious if this is a good combination or if we should be using something else as a supplement with the spent grain?

It's a good combination, but I would use it as a supplement to pasture/hay.

I have heard people say that bread will make for lardy hogs but I've now done a sample set of one which was fed as much bread as it would eat and it did not come out lardy at all. Small sample set but I suspect that bread is not the issue for those people who may have had that problem. Thus I would put that in the myth category.

Type or breed of pig probably has more to do with it as long as they get other sources for protein.
