What's this??

I have two piglets that have these boils / cysts / whatever on their hindquarters. I thought it might be "blood blisters" where they were biting, but I don't think so now because they don't appear to be going away (at least quickly).

One has had one for probably close to a week. Another one (the one in the picture) got it two days ago. In the picture you can see it on the pigs hindquarter. It's the piglet that is just past the sows tail.

I'm at a loss for what it is.

I am also at a loss for why it turned my picture up side down. Sorry about that.

thanks!

I'm sorry for the bad picture. Mamma is still really nervous so I couldn't get close enough.

Look for the piglet with its head "under" mamma's tail. Then look at its hindquarter just below the shadowline of the sun.

It's hard to see, but if you zoom in you can see how it bubbles up. Almost like a half ping pong ball is under the skin.

I can't see anything in your picture. That said, I had about 13 of a batch of 15 pigs that all got big bumps on the same hip. Eventually I realized that the pig hut in their pen had a sharp edge they were hitting when they bombed out of the hut. They all got an abscess in the same spot. They all popped and drained and they were fine.

Look for something in their pen at that height that they might be banging into.

I can't see it either but we had a piglet last summer that got stepped or laid on and injured a hind leg. We separated him from the rest and raised him with a runt we were already feeding.
He developed a big "water-bag" type growth on the leg opposite the injured one. It was never hot to touch or really firm, just real mobile and soft like a big blister. I think it may have formed from spending so much time laying on the side opposite the injury. DH wanted to lance it but I didn't see the point of risking an infection where there wasn't one.
It took a long time to go away but healing seemed to accelerate when the "bad" leg healed and he became more mobile.
