Yay! We've got our piggies now! :)
We picked out 2 gilts and have them home now, happily snorting around in the 16' x 16' pig pen we made for them to tractor around in. We are excited to begin this adventure in raising our own pork!
I have a question...part of the reason we decided to just jump right in and get some pigs despite our lack of experience and knowledge was because we have a pasture that is in horrible condition that needs piggy help to rehabilitate it as we don't own any equipment. What should we be looking for to tell us when it's time to move on? Should it be there is nothing left to eat or when the ground looks consistently and thoroughly "tilled"?
Also, does anyone know the best place to purchase GMO free grain? We live in southwestern Missouri.
Thanks!
