Thinking about selling out

Well were hitting walls not enough money to make ends meet and a barn where our pigs are that's falling apart

i hate to have to sell out but unless i win the lottery were gonna have to sell out for a couple years

some main reasons we have are 1 barn needs 10k worth of work to get it better and thats not fixing the broken up cement in places or getting electric back out there 2. We need a better set up for farrowing time 3 we need more usuable space where we can make pens 4 need to save money to do this 5 working a 50-60 hour a week job and then doing 2-4 hours worth of farm work a day is getting the best of me

so were thinking sell the pigs sell the barn break the already falling apart cement up build a longer shorter shop like barn half dirt floor have the good cement of the old barn part make it taller walk in (as im 6'5 and have to duck in the whole bottom part of the barn to do the animals now)

but everything depends on how much money im gonna get out of the barn its a nice big barn i like it but it has its problems and im tired of trying to patch and make stuff work for a little bit

everything is still up in the air but with winter right around the corner and this year not going as planned money wise its been a rough one

or wait till spring to sell out since we would Have 6 Sows we can rebreed for spring litters where we make more money from

i just ddon't want to have no building for the pigs and have to rush to get one built I wanna be able to take my time and build it right the first time

but on a postive note we had our last 3. Gilts due the 28th and 2 had them so far 8 babies each (sad note one had 2. Dead ones and other almost killed her first 4. When she had them so we switched now the one with the 2. Dead ones has 10 and the other one had 4. More over night knock on wood there all still alive)

Maybe you could just downsize and not have to sell out completely. Given all your scenario, I personally would want to reduce my numbers before heading into winter. Wouldn't that alleviate the immediate need for more pens?

Is there one project on your list that will take the pressure off ? Sometimes the overwhelming feeling can be knocked back with one solid accomplishment.

Hope your new piglets all make it.

Yea the orginal plan was to rebreed all 6 to the same boar ship him then keep the other boar to breed the gilt in january because he is smaller than our 600lb older one

but with the barn it was a pig barn when it was built then a cow barn and they and the old owner messed up alot of stuff he took out beams to have the cows go out and to add a lean off and the whole center beams are held up by rocks and bricks well the rocks are slipping out kicking the beams out a little and cracking the bricks

the last cable holding all the beams and stuff together rusted out this last winter and you can see the one side leaning out a little

we have already cut down on alot of our cows i think we only have 5 calves which 2 should be going this weekend and 2 year olds and 2 going to butcher in 3 months

were trying to break stuff down and see what we can do and work out all the options

were not gonna sell out right this moment we have at least a month till the piglets get weaned to figured out what were gonna do because i dont wanna make more than 1 trip to the auction
