American Guinea Hogs

Recently found out about these, and I'm doing some research. Looks like they may be just what we need, but I can't find anyone within a reasonable distance who is breeding them.

Does anyone have a line on this breed, or suggestions for a similar breed?

Thanks.

There is quite a bit of discussion in the forum about these pigs. Check out the search feature in the menu above. Also try AGH and PB and Pot Bellied as well as Kune Kune for close searches.

Waitaminit. Are Guinea Hogs the same as potbellied pigs? That certainly didn't pop up. Hmm...

Well, shoot, Pony. I have some AGH feeders we just weaned, and a friend of mine just left yesterday with a horse trailer in tow to Springfield, MO. I am in Middle TN, how far are you willing go, and what are you looking for (boar, sow, feeders, pets)?

No, they are not the same as pot-belly pigs.

Pony... don't know if they still have them or not, but Mike & Debbie Slack have raised Guinea Hogs for years.. (they live between Alton & Thayer) ... close enough for you to talk to and look at pigs.

Merely that both, and Kune Kune, are small pigs that often get discussed together so useful search terms.

Dang, I am on the way to Springfield. AUGH!

Will your friend be making a similar trip in the future?

I don't know them. Are they on HT? Certainly close enough!

Hey Pony. Wish you were closer, I could fix you up with a few.
I may be selling my breeding trio also.
I really like these little pigs and I am selling because of reasons that have nothing to do with the pigs. These guys really are good for a small homestead and since I know you butcher your own animals, let me add that they are a good size for the home butcher. Keeping a few around seem better than filling up a freezer with a big pig.

There is a lot of good info about them at the AGHA website.

Wish you lived closer to me. I'm seriously considering selling my breeders and just purchasing a couple of feeders every year. They're fantastic little pigs - docile, laid-back, friendly - and are perfect for a homestead. My sow is getting ready to farrow again in 16 days. My other sow (the registered one of course) has been unable to settle again since having a very difficult delivery her first go-round, so she's destined for the freezer this fall.

Pony, it is likely my friend could be making this trip again, I just don't know how soon. She's from there and likes to go back to show her horses. Actually, I believe she is looking to move back there. I'll check with her and see what her near future plans are.
I'll let you know.
