Curing a sow and her piglets of lice

I have a 2 week old litter with their mother. The mother has lice and so do her piglets. In 4 weeks they are going to their new homes and I would like to send them on their way without lice. They are getting all their food from their mamma. If I dose her with ivermectin will that kill their lice too without hurting them?

Is there a powder I could dust them with that would do the lice in?

Thanks

I immediately thought of diatomaceous earth when I read this, and there seems to be a good amount of people recommending it based on a google search. Might give it a try?

There are many products available, check with your feed store. An Ivomec injection will quickly take care of that problem and also deworm them. I would wait until you are a couple of weeks from sending them to new homes. Follow the label instructions. Change the bedding immediately and again after ten days as the nits/eggs will not be affected. In the mean time, a coating of vegetable oil will smother many of the lice and start you on the path to getting things under control. Good luck.

Sevens dust works on horses. DE did not work on horses. Id try the Sevens. Dust and then 4-7 days later dust again. Get their area dusted as well. Third dusting a week later. Deworming will work also but I personally have never dewormed a piglet that young.

I would use 7 dust on them and their bedding area. Replace the straw and burn the old bedding. I put Seven out weekly for 4 weeks on the bedding and dusted my piglets weekly that were about the same age as yours and seem to have completely eliminated my problems.

Ivomec for everyone. Problem solved.
