New Member Intro

Hi All,

New member here from Colorado. I raised 4 hogs last year from weaner stage through processing and really, really enjoyed it. Getting weaners last year was hard, and it didn't get any easier this year. If I could even find any available, they were upwards of $100. After a couple months of searching I finally decided that I was going to raise them myself so I didn't have to deal with this again next year.

Then one day...Bam!...on craigslist. 1 Boar, 3 Sows (two are supposedly bred), 12 weaners, four tons of feed, barrels and a feeder for $2900. I thought it was actually as steal and immediately called the guy and said I'd take them. Then I called my wife

Three days later I picked them up and had them home. The weaners were actually still nursing, but it was time to move them to their own pen, so I did that. The Boar had been living with the sows and I decided to not change that arrangement (but I am going to....). Everything is going pretty well so far. They're all noisy, and I think that's mostly because I haven't nailed down their feeding schedule and they're hungry. I'll get that squared away, though.

Anyway, just wanted to post an intro. I stray into the other sections, but this section is where I spend most of my time. I've learned a lot from you all so thanks for posting so much info for us new folks. I've still got a lot of learing to do, especially come farrowing time

Thanks for the welcomes, folks!

The boar, who I've dubbed "Grizz", is a Hampshire and the sows are a Hamp, York and a spotted cross I'm still trying to figure out. The York is the one who just had the babies.

The fun began last night at 3 a.m. when one of the weaners got her leg trapped behind the feeder. She's fine, though.
