feed unused calf starter to 6 wk old pigs?

We ended up with a lot of milk replacer left over.

Any reason I can't mix it and feed it to our 6 wk old pigs. I thought to make a mush mixing it with the pig mash I feed them.

I would use it, but sparingly while they are this young. It may be medicated. This wouldn't bother me but it might you. If medicated you might want to figure out what daily dosage they are getting and adjust accordingly.

We lost a sow three days after farrowing. We fed it free choice n a bowl thickened after a few days and they loved it. Saved a whole litter for us. Understand and research the medicated part, but it could be very useful.

I would definately do so and wouldn't worry too much about the medicated part of it.

However, do you think you will rear calves again? If so, and you have the freezer space, consider putting the remaining milk powder, in it's original bag, inside a heavy duty plastic bag, sealing it and putting it into the freezer for the next lot of calves. CMR really is too expensive to be feeding to pigs and keeps very well in the freezer.

Cheers,
Ronnie
