calcium deficiency

Another thread advised I had a first timer with low calcium. Can I use a food grade calcium carbonate from the local feed store. Mix a handfull in with her feed?

Eek, handful would be to much. Calcium is a micro additive I put 24lbs in 2 tons of feed. Try sprinkling it on as the earthy flavor might put them off feed as well.

Thanks for the reply hardball.

Could you answer another question?

My 1st time gilt/sow (what is she now) has 13 two week old piglets nursing and thriving on her.

Should I be doing anything extra for her? She seems so drained and sluggish. I guess making all that milk would be exhausting.

I feed as much feed as she can eat (how much is too much) she gets the extra goat milk from a stripping of one side of a new mommy goat 2x a day.

The piglets wont eat mommy's food when offered yet.
