Fence chargers?

I am not familiar with them.

I want to use them on a pig yard, 3 or 4 pigs. Location is at least 100 yards from nearest electric outlet. Yard size would be 10ft x 150ft located on my garden.

What kind are the better chargers?

Locally: TSC has Zareba and local farm bureau has Patriots.

Wire for fence or tape?

Any and all advice wanted. Thanks.

Thought about the tape for the visiblity but wasn't sure of how it would hold up.

The Tractor Supply Zareba and the Kencove.com similar model are both excellent. We have four. Both companies are good to deal with. I like the 6 joule models. Recently got a 15(?) joule model but but it does not seem noticeably different when testing on the same fence line.

Cheers

Premier Fencing website and catalog are terrific for learning about electric fencing. They give you all kinds of illustrated fencing configurations and options for all manner of critters whether domesticated or wild (predators, deer). www.premier1supplies.com I have an old charger that said it was good for 15 miles but with all our fencing, cross fencing and poultry netting it was at its limit and not putting out much of a shock. I called Premier and they recommended the Kube 4000, reasonably priced and with all our stuff hooked up it was still lighting the tester all the way up to the top (7000 volts) where the old charger was barely making it flicker at all.

Let me address the 100 yards from the nearest electrical outlet and the yard size.

No problems with the size or distance. Just about any charge will be able to handle that size of space with most fencing materials. Wouldn't use a battery charger because they don't put out much and are expensive. Make you have a good ground at the charger.

Now the 120V fencer (charger) be located right at the building with good grounding. You can buy a spool of 300 feet (100yard) insulated wire or just run one strand of bare wire out to the garden. It's really not very far at all. 300 feet of insulated wire (made for electric fencing) is not that expensive and gives you lots of flexiability. Especially if you buy some Premier1 Electro-net fencing to use with it.

OK I just bought a Dare Model DS100. Solar powered. It claims 200 acres at .25 joules. Will this be sufficient for a couple pigs?
