Will she ever deliver?

Will she ever deliver? - Pigs/

Average pig gestation is 115 days. Today is the 115th day since she left Harry the boar.

Sheesh! I really wish she'd have those babies already. I have 70 baby birds showing up this week, and I was supposed to be done with farrowing by now.

Yup, first litter. She's moving slow today, but still no piglets!

I will see if I can get a look at her vulva this afternoon. She was sitting on it this morning.

I went through your old posts earlier and found pictures of your girls that you posted before. It gets me excited about my piggy. Shes starting to get the obvious teats but no where as near as your girl. I only had the boar a week though so I will have a narrow window of farrowing dates. April 5th - 9th is my estimates

What do u look for in vuvla?

Sqeeze one of her teets, if she has milk, she'll deliver within 12 hours.

enlargement of the vulva. As the cervix opens and gets ready for the birth. We have had girls not have milk until they farrowed, (our last litter of durocs) and some have milk for 3 days before. I like to use it as a guideline to watch them closer, but don't always count on it.

Not a great picture, but she's not moving around much today, so it's what I could get! Don't tell her I put pictures of her bits on the internets.

Might be time to call your veterinarian to get her induced with Lutalyse.

so does she have milk? Is she in labor? Don't unduce. We have 4 days over with no problems. Never went over the 4 days over. Her vulva looks larger than a gilt not ready to farrow.

I won't tell her what you did........I promise

She will farrow when she's ready. Total Privacy and no distractions is probably what she desires. 115 days is only a guide, an average as it were. Up to 4 days over would not alarm me.

Will she ever deliver? - Pigs

I called my vet today, found out she is on vacation until Monday, but another vet's office is on call this weekend. He said he would wait until 5 days over before inducing.

She's mostly been staying in her shed today. No real appetite, which I'm taking as a good sign.

It's been warm all week, and supposed to snow tonight. Maybe this will be it.

For some reason, I can't insert a photo today -- nothing happens when I click the icon.

But look! Day 119 after she left Harry, and I know I'm not wrong about dates because I'm the one who drove in a snow storm to pick her up, and I took pictures, heh.

Six live, one dead that I saw, but she's got it moved to a corner. I saw the after birth up in a different corner. There was one babe on the wrong side of her, but I watched as she called to it and grunted, and got it brought around and suckling.

I put another board blocking the doorway of the shed to help her keep them inside. It's snowing really hard out there right now. We've got 4 inches on the ground of new snow, and it's supposed to snow until dark today. It's pretty warm, though. 31*F. Way better than the -15*F that it was when Ginny farrowed.

If I can make a suggestion, lets try and limit her feed for the next 7 days and ramp it up past that point....This makes her use some of her fat reserves and maintain a more healthy body condition...A heavy sow is not a durable sow. The long term soundness of a sow is dependent on the ability to maintain body condition fairly stable at all points....We all love to see pigs eat, they love to eat, but sometime we have to limit them for there own good.

Over the next week go from 5 to 8 pounds a day and then about 12-14 lbs through weaning. I know what registered hogs cost and you want to keep them going as long as possible.
