Wire fencing

I was just wondering if 14 Gauge galvanized welded wire that is 48 inches tall be good to keep pygmy goats fenced in? The squares on it are 2" x 4". It comes in rolls of 50 feet for $30 dollars at Lowe's. Would this type of fencing work for goats or is it to weak or somthing? Thanks again for the help

that type will be torn down by goats quickly. that stuff is made more for chickens and the like. goats like to itch themselves on the fence, which will strech and bend the fence out.

We put that type of fencing around two newly planted willow trees we were trying to protect from the goats. They just pushed their noses through until it stretched enough to put their head through, then they stood on it until the rest of it busted. It took them all of about half an hour to totally demolish it AND the trees!

NOT a good choice for goat fence....

That's what we've used for the past 5 years. We've had to constantly fix it where they climb, push, pull & lean on it. And come home to find them waiting patiantly in the middle of the road for us. Or have them knocking on your front door at 6 a.m.

. Go with something else.

I agree the welded wire is more affordable, but really in the long run, it's not worth the hassle.

We actually just put electric up this weekend for my pygmy & 2 kids. At first they did run thru. Until we remembered for calves, we always picketed them close enough that they could touch, but not run thru the fence. They've been in for 5 days with no escapes!! We only ran 2 strands, one about 8 in. & the other about 18 in from the ground. It was pretty afordable to, fencer, wire, & insulators less than $80. It does 3 times the area of the welded wire!

Now if we could just keep our geese from visiting the nieghbors
