Question feeding oats?

We have a big 50 pound bag of cleaned horse oats that were given to us and have been told that they are fine to feed our goats. We feed purina goat feed that is a mixture of cracked corn, pellet, oats...if we mix in this bag of oats will it bother our goats? Never fed them just straight oats before...how much for pygmys? THANKS~!!

Do you have whole oats or steam crimped/rolled oats?
The first would be a bit harder to digest, so I'd go
sparingly. Either way, I wouldn't look a gift bag of horse
feed in the mouth. Not sure what amount
you're feeding of your present concentrate, but it
shouldn't have any ill effect to use up these oats in
as a smallish proportion of their present ration...like
top dressing. HTH

When we want our does to milk more for shows, we add extra race horse oats. It won't hurt your goats. They may not like them as much as they like their present feed as they are dry with no molasses on them. You can start mixing in the oats with their feed gradually. I would start with 1/4 a cup and work your way up to making the oats 1/4 of the feed you feed them. I wouldn't feed them more than 1/4 oats out of their ration. Like 3/4 Goat Chow 1/4 oats.
