still no babies!!!

daisy still has no babies. i she has been ovbiously pregnant for about a month and a half. she is a pygmy, so her udder isnt huge, but it is fairly large. i want to be here when she has her baby, and i cant go visit my friend who lives an hour away till after she has her baby. how do u tell when she's getting closer? like within the week?

Howdy...do ya have a date that she was bred?...pygmys have a 5 month gestation period before giving birth...so sounds like you have alot of time to go for a visit if she was bred 1 1/2 months ago....even knowing a due date wont be the promised day for her to deliver....she will get starry eyes, discharge, the tendons around her tail will get real soft[almost like her tail is broke] she will do alot of rubbing against things, tail wagging, her udders will get huge!,she will get up and down constantly, bleet, and at times some will not eat the day they will give birth.....these are signs that birth is going to happen...without a due date no real way to tell a week before birthing dead on.....good luck...dale anne

I bought a pygmy a couple years ago as a bred goat. She was "obviously pregnant" and my first goat in years.

Turned out she had just been bred, 'cause she had those babies 4 months and three weeks later. She just had a fat belly on her! But I waited anxiously for those months, sure that it would be any day now.

I have a goat now that people always ask if she's pregnant. She's not. She has 5 week old twins. She still looked pregnant right after she gave birth. She's short barreled for a Nubian, so she spreads that ribcage sideways. She will always look pregnant, I think. She's not really fat. I can feel her ribs properly, and her hip bones are right there without being covered up.

Point being...unless you know her breeding date, don't bother waiting around. Unless you want to give up your life for the next several months, like I did!

i kno that she was bred in the months of jan-march. thats the only time she has had access to the buck. (she kept going into heat) she is a pet pygmy, and doesnt look purebred, because i have noticed alot of the show type pygmies do look pregnant all the time. but 1 1/2 monthes ago she got noticably bigger. usually i watch my goats weight and keep them so that thier ribs and stomac dont have a visible joint. but she has gotten bigg. i kno the signs of labor. so theres no dead on way to tell if the labor is gonna be within the week or so?

nope no way to say 100% she will have the kids in a week or so...I have had goats that were in labor for 3 days with signs...and had goats not due for 2 more weeks...no signs and woke up to kidds on the floor....just had 2 of my nannies give birth and neither one showed signs...one was a week early and 1 a week late!...no signs of discharge,no starry eye,no being uncomfortable...nothing...I have never missed a birth till these two this month...I could always tell when they were going to go...but not this time. I knew the one that was late was going to go soon but after a 5 days and nights of sleeplessness I gave up on her....she had always had her kidds in the afternoon..so I figured she wasnt going to have them at about 11 the night before...i went to bed got up at daylight looked out and seen a baby suckling on her...never heard her scream while giving birth...the dogs didnt bark letting me know something was going on...nothing!...i say go ahead with yer visit and enjoy yaself if not ya will more likley then not kick yerself in the backside when she has them while yer not watching anyways....dale anne
