Status of my "constipated" goat

What a day....

After checking on my little guy early this am I decided that it was definately time to see the vet. Luckily, I have a pretty darn good goat vet 2 counties over. We wanted to try to save him but not anything major, since he is a great fighter, but still kind of a sickly goat.

Anyway, it was urinary calculi, and he ruptured his urethra in 3 places and we went ahead and opened his penis and re-routed it and he is doing great so far. The vet said better then to be expected. Only minor irritation and not majoy infection. We are not out of the woods because he may have kidney damage or something else, but at least he has a shot at a decent life. (can you tell these goats are totally my children!)

The vet will call tomorrow...I'll post the outcome then. Keep the little guy (General Ka D'Argo) in your prayers and thanks for the info. If I hadn't seen previous posts I might have missed this earlier.

What a pretty boy!

I'm so glad you got it figured out while there was time to do something for him. Good luck!

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing okay. We just had a little boy die of urinary calculi, he was four months old and only the seconed animal that died at our place and the other was an unborn baby goat. Burt died because we didn't know what it was and waited too long so my dad had to shoot him. To prevent it don't give your males too much grain and make sure that they have plenty of hay, and preferably grass too. Well I'm just happy that your guy is doing good.
