Teeth and age

Hello, I received 6 bred does this week. I gave them a worming and inspection/physical today. The breeder says they were born in 2003, probably June. Upon inspecting the teeth, I noticed that the two front teeth are larger than the surrounding teeth. However, the two front teeth on most of them are just as long as surrounding teeth. My question is: on a two year old goat, will the two front teeth be much longer than surrounding teeth or just much wider? Thank you VERY much.....Dennis in Vermont.

In my experance at 1 yr old goats will get the 1st of front teeth. They will be bigger in all aspects. I have never had a problem in telling the difference in the "baby" teeth and the adult teeth. There is quit a bit of difference in the goats I deal with anyway.

Above is a link to show you how to tell a goat's age by the teeth.

A good way to remember is to double the number of teeth on the lower jaw for each year:

One year: Two (adult) teeth
Two years: Four
Three Years: Six
Four Years: Eight
