Fixing

Whats the easiest why for owner and goat to fix a little boy.
I was thinking banding because they olny hurt for the most a couple of hours right after badning and a little after they fall off. But would you reccommend this or another way.
Any information would be great

I use the banding method all the time on mine with no problems.

There are three main methods.

banding
burdizzo
cutting

I have seen all three done. burdizzo is good, but you must clamp well or you can leave cord intact and animal can still breed (when young). usually what happens is testicles stay small when animal matures so it is obvious whether or not it worked in a mature animal. YOu have to double clamp each side independently (not across both cords).

cutting is good but it leaves an open wound. My husband is a big fan of cutting, he does calves and lambs this way. you simply cut off the end of the scrotum and pull out (don't cut, pull instead) each testicle.

banding is my method of choice. I do it from one week of age to three weeks of age. A goat expert friend of mine claims it can be successfully and safely done even on adult bucks with local anestesia. Just make sure both testicles are down in the scrotum when you release the band and make sure you don't have a testicle pinched under the band. I also like to make sure the band is as far down on the scrotum as I can get it and also make sure you don't have a teat caught under the band (bucks have tiny teats too).

You know it is done and they will not be able to breed!

We have ours cut, but I am going to look into the burdizzo for the future. Something I can handle.
