kid born at 15pounds

my saanen doe kidded yesterday with a 15pound buck kid.this is her third time freshening but her first with me.took me about an hour to pull him and i still don't know how she did it.he is one big boy and very healthy.
doe is well but hurting abit and walking slow.

is this common with saanens?or any ideas on why he is so big.she was bred to a small boer buck,much smaller then her.the other kids from this buck are small kids,nothing like this monster!

I read something about big single kids being a sign of selenium problems....is he nursing okay?

I did have a single doeling weigh in at 10lbs 2 years ago Nubian/toggy/alpine. Her mom is a big girl though. 160 lbs

I know a Saanen breeder whose doe had a single 21 lb doeling!!!


Some preperation H on your does behind might make her feel a little better.

my doe had her bosee shot while preg.
yes he practicly came out standing i could not believe it.he nurses very well and she has lots of milk.this doe is only 130-140pounds good size but not a real big girl at all.

We had a Saanen kid with one huge buck too. This was her second time. The other does that were bred to him all had smaller but decient size kids. Maybe it is something with the Saanens. Not sure though. Our's weighed about 10 pounds!

my Nubian does, have babies that weigh between 10 and 12 pounds, not uncommon.
