Nanny has clumpy stools

What can I do to get them normal? I wormed her w/ ivomec orally a week ago. Think I need to do it again? It just looks like real firm cow manure.

Are you quite sure it's worms and not something else?

If you're sure it's worms... How much are you giving her orally? HOw much does she weigh? Are you at least doubling the dosage listed on the label for the same weight in cattle? Are you sure giving it orally is taking care of the worm problem? I assume you're giving her the injectable orally. YOu might want to consider giving ivomec sheep drench orally if you want to go the oral route. You might also want to consider worming with a different medicine if you're doing everything else right. I'm still kind of leery about giving ivomec injectable orally. I just wonder how effective that is. And I don't believe this practice is necessary since the sheep drench is on the market and it works for goats too.

Another thing that might be going on is it may be just kicking in right now. Ivomec works slower than the white drenches like safeguard and valbazen to name two. If she were heavily loaded with worms, she may be expelling them and that can cause them to be loose too. It's hard to say. White drenches are dangerous in this regard, sometimes if they're heavily loaded, the white drenches can cause so many worms to die at one time that it causes the animal to die I guess from hemmorage.

Hope this helps.

All my goats and sheep have this right now, and I consider it a normal sign of spring. When the new grass is very young and tender with lots of moisture content to be processed, we get the clumps of "cow pie" poop out of all of them. As grass growth starts to harden off with warmer weather and the fiber content is higher, the b-b pellet poop returns. If you can see clots of mucus or blood on the clumps, then worms or cocci may still be a problem.

Well she's not on any grass. She has the run of our small barn (about 20x40) and I tried letting them out today as it's so pretty and w/in 10 mins they were all out!! I had to run them down and back to the barn they went! HAHA!! I wormed her 7 days ago. She is a saanen adn I don't really know what she weighs. I am thinking maybe about 100 or so but not sure. I had the vet give me enough ivomec for 120 just in case.
I'll have to see if I can find any of the sheep stuff. I am on the verge of taking in a stool sample! It's driving me nuts!! Then my other little doe has the runs and looks kinda ucky on the back end. I can't seem to find that sulfa stuff people talk about. Thanks all!

Susan is right, it seems to be the new grass. We just fenced in a new pasture and opened it up to the girls and they stated having the clumpy poo also. At first I though worms, but they were wormed after the babies were born (safe guard) and then wormed 2 weeks later with cydectin. Their gums and eyelids are both bright pink to red, so I'm pretty sure it's the new grass.

allenslab,

You may have trouble finding any sheep or goat stuff locally. Instead, try ordering from catalogs. I like PBS and Jeffers. Both of them have a website. Jeffers is www.jefferslivestock.com/ssc/ and PBS is www.pbsanimalhealth.com/ Both are pleasant to deal with and prices are great. And for goodness sake, STOP buying ivomec from the vet! You're getting ripped off I'm afraid. How many goats do you have??? You should be able to buy a fairly large container of wormer and use it all up before it expires, or even better, split it with a goat friend.

PS to everyone else who has posted so far about spring grass: We have no grass yet, not all of us have made it to the spring grass yet (-;

Thanks I'll have to look at those sites. It cost me 7.40 for the 4 doses I needed. I just have 4 goats. These are the first goats I've had. We had some when I was little I milked but not had any in a LONG time. Really like them! They have funny attitudes!

Well her stool sample in a shes fine so she just is clumpy. The baby had coccidi and was given a bolus for her that she actually really liked as I mixed it w/ applesauce. So let's keep our fingers crossed.
