What is this on my goat's ears?

Hubby came home with a new weanling today. It is our hope to put her with our baby for a pal, but we have her separated right now until we can observe her and make sure she is well.

BUT she (new goat) has something on her ears. What is this?

Here are pics: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/vic_to...bum?.dir=/fa43

(You may have to cut & paste that for it to work.)

Here is a description:
Flaky, white stuff on the edges & tips of her ears. It looks like dry skin sort of.

***KEEP SCROLLING DOWN. THE LAST LINK I POSTED FINALLY WORKS.

Are you sure the album is "public"? I ran into that problems myself a couple of times.

I was going to ask, "which one of those huge horned devils is your "baby" and how do you expect a weanling to stand a chance with them? But since you don't know them I deleted my post :haha:

OH MY GOD!!! One of ours had that and within 4 days our entire herd was dead!!!

JUSTKIDDING!! Actually it almost looks like what I have seen in really congested herds that use feeders where the goats have to push their head through bars to get to the hay. Due to crowding they have to push fast and hard or be pushed out.

As a precaution you might want to try antifungal cream if it looks fungal or a moisturizer if it looks more like dry skin. I'm an orthopedic surgeon, not a dermatologist, but those are my guesses.

It's bites. My goats get that in the summer time. treat them for lice and fleas.
I was worried about mine and the vet told me to get repellant on them.
I use 7 dust and it works but be careful that they don't breath it.
I know that is not a repellant but I have never found a repellant that works on livestock. It will kill lice and fleas which is probably the problem anyway.

Well no wonder I have never seen that here. Nothing lives in this frozen hell
