Unhappy Frozen Automatic waterers
anyone have any ideas how to keep automatic waterers from freezing?

Wrap them with heat tape?

Now that we have dropped to anywhere between -5 and 11 degrees at night I am having the same problem, up til then though I just keep it as close to the heat light as I can and make sure it has a good layer of straw all around it. I have heard sugar will help it from freezing but the amount that would have to go in would be abit much, I don't think it's all that helpful to hop the animals up on sugar anyway LOL :haha:

I gave mine Karo in their water tonight. because it is so cold. I use buckets mounted on the wall, that plug in. these that I have are about 3 years old, and they really do a great job, at keeping the water, warm. so it isn't freezing.

Brilliant, Karo syrup--hadn't considered that, bet my goat would Never leave the waterer--he has such a sweet tooth-but I bet Karo works really well without the high doses of actual sugar. I just use it on my flapjacks so far
