I have been very excited as my new doe she is 3/4 nubian and 1/4 boar was due to kid next month bred to anubian buck well went out to the barn this morning and she kidded to early two dead kids a doe and abuck just what I ordered :waa: but at least it looks like she came into her milk so I hope not all is lost I milked her out this morning and will freeze the colostrum , my alpine girl is due?????? I am guessing the end of the month or first of next month just aguess and she is thinking about starting to bag up sheis alittle thicker in her udder and she is bred to my pure alpine buck so I hope I get my little babies with her I love baby goats

I am so sorry to hear about this. We have had some trouble with our herd lately and I can sympathize. I hope your other goat has healthy babies for your sake & hers.

Shygal...I was happening to look on the other forums on here and noticed that the same person has been posting this website under different names. I mean she has different names and even the link name is different then you click on it and the same thing pops up.

Although early abortions usually mean nothing, late term abortion mean two things, either you have a disease process going on (chylmydia, mycoplsma etc) or someone banged into the doe to cause early labor. This may be a warning sign for you to watch for.

At the very least I would give her a one time shot of any 200 mg tetracycline like LA200 etc.. 4.5cc per 100 pounds, and also give it to the buck she was bred to and any does he bred after her, it's about the only thing preventative you can do, then just wait and watch. But one more abortion and take the placentas and one kid into the lab to be tested...do not drink this does milk raw until you have more news. Nothing else happens in the herd than the colostrum you saved will be fine to feed to the Alpines kids. I would heat treat it to be safe anyway, especially if the aborted doe came to you and wasn't born on your place. They can carry chlamydia. Vicki

well as far ad what happen I a have afew therorys on that she just came to my farm amonth ago I do not own the buck but i did put her in with afew other goats and it is very possible she got banged up my mistake she was amonth away from kidding her due date was feb 12th it was avery normal delivery she is avery healthy doe no sign of sickness I called the place where I got her from today and her other does are just fine she has even had afew born already , just yesterday I moved her in my barn with the alpine doe to start giving them grain as I alwasy do about amonth early they ahve been on good grass clover hay up untill now biut our weather has been pretty rough hot cold snow rain and she has been shivering alot I think she got very stressed out when she came amonth ago she is very sensitive well live and learn I guess

I am so sorry for your loss but are you sure the babies were indeed premature? were they fully developed?? Also something you might think abt is that Alpines are or so I have been told, are very aggressive so if you moved the Alpine and her in together this may have been who butted her. Please follow Vicki's advice above.

I have not found that alpines are anymore aggressive than any other goat yes the babies were premature they had no hair on them and little I woudl guess if some one butted her it woudl ahve been the little pygmy male with horns he can be alittle agressive and he nneds to be on the dinner table but I cant eat my goats I really think itis the stress of everything she has gone through he milk production is picking up I am jsut keeping it and watching everyone I will freeze the milk untill I see the other goat kid healthy goats I like to have some milk put away for other critters any how and if some thing happens I can through it away very easily but she is acting jsut fine has avery good appitite almost no discharge doing very well poor think licks me every time I milk her she is avery affectionit goat

Am glad to hear she seems to be doing ok. Yep those little pygmy's with horns are evil. I had a little wether pet but the way thier horns grown they use them in a very bad way. Even though ours was a pet and very loving he was just too darn agressive with the does and not good as a heat tester because of this, so in with the bucks he went. However he was too aggressive with the bucks and was afraid he would hurt one of them or a grandchild. He did make very good bbq tho. OF course no one but me knew that not even DH told him the boys took him home. The goats we normally butcher have no names and certainly are not pets.

I am sorry tohear of your loss. iwould say she probably got bangs, and stress. but you might want to have it checked out to be on the safe side.
