Contracted tendons question and lots of cute kids
So far we have had three sets of twins and two sets of triplets. And have two more does to go! While all are doing quite well, and thank goodness we have not had any problems kidding, I do have one problem child. My Saanen doe had twin boys yesterday. One is buckling over at his pasterns. I gave him 1/2 cc of BoSe after he was born (I give all the babies BoSe and mamas get some a month before due). He is a good size and has been up and walking (see pic) and has been nursing.
My question is: Can I or Should I give another dose of BoSe? I do not want to give too much. I will wrap his legs for support this evening when I get home from work. No problems with getting that done correctly. I appreciate your input.

I would not give any more BO-SE. Wrapping should help, but I think you'll find they'll straighten out in a day or two, and he'll be right as rain. I've seen this many, many times.

Thank you nehimama. Good news!!!! I went home on lunch and checked on the goats. And the baby shown above was much, much better just since this morning!
he was standing next to his mom, on both front feet. The right foot was nearly correct and the left foot, he was using his toe. But that is major improvement in just a few short hours. I may still wrap for support, but I will be watching him closely and don't expect much trouble. Thank Heaven! I have been so fortunate this year. I am grateful for the advice and encouragement. More pictures to come soon.

Sometimes they just need to "unfold" after being cramped up inside the womb.

I had a couple like that this year, I treated by giving BOSE and Vit E. once a day for probably 2-3 days. I wrapped their feet as well but that didn't seem to help. What helped the most was when I started stretching their feet 3 times a day (every time I bottle fed). So if you ever have it again and they don't start responding I suggest gentle stretching the muscles out a few times a day, it really worked for my kids when combined with the BOSE and Vit E.
Justine
PS: Adorable kids!!

Wow cute
I wonder how you manage so many different breeds. How many bucks do you have?

I was told that contracted tendons is manganese and to give a multi min shot. Selenium causes lax tendons and muscles, not tight.
I don't get them very often in my herd and haven't really tried it. I would give vit E with the multimin since it doesn't have it like Bo-se. I'd be hesitant to give it after having given the bose recently, however.

Actually Boerboy, These are all cross bred kids. I have a reg. toggenburg doe, a reg. saanen doe, an experimental reg. alpine/Nubian doe and two boer does. As well I have a boer X saanen doe and a boer X alpine doe.
The buck was an unregistered nubain belonging to a friend. So far we have had three sets of triplets and three sets of twins. Last doe is ready any time now.
The two bucklings that seemed to have contracted tendons both straightened out in a couple of days. As of today they look perfect!
