Urgent possible pneumonia

I have a 4 year old Nigerian dwarf wether who I suspect has pneumonia. Labored breathing, elevated temp, is eating and drinking. Temperatures here have been crazy, up and down. Barns due need to be cleaned as goats have been confined indoors due to large amounts of snow. Do not have access to vet who will treat goats. Have on hand biomycin 200.

Looking for suggestions on a course of treatment. Thanks in advance

If you can get pen g you will be more successful. The protocol I use per my vet is 5 cc (10 cc for my full sized goats)pen g sub q. And 5 cc la-200 or biomiocin sub q. Once a day for 5 days. Hope that helps.

The more quickly you treat it, the better the chances of recovery. Pneumonia will take a goat down in no time flat!

Just wanted to clarify I don't think she means Pen G AND la-200 or bio-mycin because oxytetracycline will void the penicillin

I had fairly good success with the Pen G. I also gave children's Robitussin to help with congestion, B complex to keep appetite up.

If you can give some kind of pain reliever that will help them too, Banamine being the best.

AND don't forget the Probiotic's want to keep that rumen working well.

Thanks for all your help. I had the biomycin on hand so that is what I used. I also gave him childrens Benadryl. His breathing seems to be a bit better, not near as labored now as it was early this morning. I am keeping my fingers crossed. He is up and moving around now and has eaten. Will give more Benadryl later this evening.

You'll need to do the antibiotics for a week & then follow up with Probios paste because the antibiotics wipe the good bacteria from the rumens.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the little guy.

Thanks. He seems to be breathing better this evening. I too am keeping my fingers crossed. I gave him childrens robutussin syrup today and that seems to ease his breathing and cough and he seems to like the taste (lol). Luckily he is eating and drinking. I read five days on the antibiotics, but should I do a full week??
