Day 152- babies?

Today is day 152 for my Alpine. She has bagged up. She showed a LITTLE bit of discharge yesterday, but just a little in the morning and then nothing the rest of the day. She is acting fine, eating and drinking, bullying the other goats (she's herd queen). When do I need to start worrying? If she doesn't kid today, should I call a vet and get oxytocin?

Are you 100% sure of her due date. No way she took at a later date.

Do not induce unless you are 150% sure of her breeding date and there is no possible way at all she could have been bred at a later date (and oxytocin isn't used to induce).

She'll kid when she's ready.

I just had a doe go 7 months, lol. My does and bucks are separated and I had all the dates pegged for the first 2 weeks in January. Five out of six were right on time. The last one took another 2 months. She was bagged up and huge, but I figured as long as she was not showing signs of labor or unduly uncomfortable I would let her be. The mystery was finally solved when my son mentioned that the bucks had gotten out twice over the past few months and run down the fence into the doe pen. I don't know who the daddy is, but she finally delivered 2 beautiful kids, a doe and a buck, so no complaints here.

This doesn't answer your question....but I would not worry about 152+ days. My best girl Dolly has kidded at 154 days for the past 2 years with lovely triplets.

Gestation is normal plus or minus 5 days either way. 145-155d. No gestation I'm aware of is ALWAYS 'on' the duedate. It is abnormal but not necessarily problematic to go plus or minus 7 days, associated with a bit of increased risk. Much earlier or longer than 7 days is an issue. I've had kids come both 7 days early and late before with no problems. It is not likely for them to go excessively overterm, however. If you are absolutely sure of the duedate, then you can induce at any time. The trouble is being absolutely sure... not as easy as you think sometimes, LOL.

Had a Nigerian kid on day 155/156 with a single buck just fine. That was probably her mucous plug. I don't think you have to worry.

My Nigerians this year are almost all going on day 142-143, with normal size babies with no issues. And that is with hand breeding and AI'ing, so I am sure on the due dates. Kinda strange. My alpine still are going overdue....they like to do that. I've had them kid up to 5 days over, but have heard of longer from alpines. Normal for them.

This year was a weird one for me. Seemed all were being lazy, but soon as I put them in the kidding pen "poof" they would have the babies even when they were not due yet.
